This website is a virtual home to our beautiful Bengal Cats. We are bengal cat hobbyists, who breed bengals to a high standard based in Birmingham, West Midlands, UK and occasionally do have bengal cats and kittens available for re-homing and homing respectively, please do take the time to check our kittens page. We do not work with any other breed, as our programme is driven by the passion we have for bengals. We are a TICA and GCCF registered cattery.

We are cat-centric in our approach to our breeding programme and our pets. We have bengal pets indoors with us because we love them, and this further qualifies us to give pet advice as we have pets growing old with us, in our home and have done for years. We have extensive personal experience of homing kittens and are able to effectively advice our new kitten owners of any issues that may arise, but usually don't have to, as our holistic and hands-on approach to raising our kittens means they go to their new homes and settle quickly, if our advice is followed.

Our TICA prefix is Ajooba and our GCCF assigned prefix is Acharya. Where requested and possible we will register our bengal kittens with both GCCF and TICA.

A little bit about the Bengal Cat...

The bengal cat is a hybrid of the Asian Leopard Cat and domestic cat. This breed was first founded in 1963 in the USA by Jean Mill. The first kittens from the breeding of Asian Leopard Cats and a domestic cat are termed F1, first generation foundation cats. The cats we breed and are commonly seen at cat shows and are pets are F4 (fourth generation) and beyond. The fourth generation hybrids and beyond are considered to be more domestic in their nature and less likely to revert back to the wild habits of their ancestors and hence more likely to make good pets.

Here at Ajooba Cats we do not have any foundation bengal cats at this time, but strongly believe that the foundation bengals are very misunderstood and are the victims of bad publicity from people who have never met them or taken the time to understand them. Foundation cats are useful in breeding programmes to regain charactistics sometimes lost when the Asian Leopard Cat genes are diluted with those of domestic cats used to create fourth generation bengals. Bengals are intelligent cats and need attentive owners who are able to give them time, attention and affection. We have had a maximum of 17 bengals here at Ajooba not counting kittens and we have not experienced any aggression or malicous behaviour from the breed. We live in a residential area with neighbours who have cats and our cats have not fought or terrorised anyone elses.

The bengal breed is not too dissimilar to other active cat breeds, but the bengal does stand out for its intelligence and agility. We have homed kittens in flats and houses and they have settled fine, as at the end of the day almost all cats just need a loving home. For more information about the bengal cat, please do visit the Bengal Cat Club of Great Britain.

At Ajooba...

We would term our breeding programme here at Ajooba progressive. The bengal breed moves on at a brisk pace yearly and the aim of our breeding programme is to breed bengal cats that look as close as possible to the Asian Leopard Cat, with adorable personalities and fantastic temperaments. As with people, bengal cats also have a range of personalities, from soft lap-cats to playful energetic explorers and every combination inbetween.

We have included information on this website to provide an idea of what it is like living with bengal cats, who are chatty, playful and extremely intelligent with strong personalities; as well as to bring you up to date news of our small breeding programme.

Our wild-looking potential stud boy Adam.

Breeding bengals is our hobby and we put the health and welfare of our kittens/cats foremost. Our kittens and cats go to their new homes vaccinated, microchipped, vet checked twice, well socialised, litter trained, frontlined, wormed and with 4 weeks free insurance, kitten pack and advice whenever needed. We will try very hard to match the personality of our kittens to their owners.

We recommend that all prospective owners do as much research as possible about the breed and cats prior to homing a Bengal cat, especially if it is their first, and also visit the Bengal Rescue and Welfare Society to see if it is more suitable to give an adult Bengal a home. Please ask as many questions as you can, so that you know you are making the right choice homing a cat and indeed a bengal cat, as it is a decision you will hopefully live with for many years.
